Meet Your Mentors!!! The Highland MOPS mentors are the wonderful ladies that nurture and encourage us at every meeting. These remarkable women willingly share their own experiences and insights that help us develop as mothers and wives. They also lovingly pray over all our prayer requests and are available for one on one time during our meetings. They are the very back bone of the Steering Team - encouraging us and helping us as needed. And every year they host the wonderful MOPS & POPS dinner. (If you have a prayer request that you didn't share at your last MOPS meeting, feel free to email the

I was called to this ministry because of a love for young moms and a deep belief in the importance of encouraging and supporting them. I've been a full time homemaker for most of my married life. I worked a number of years for a religious publishing company, writing and editing children's materials on a contract basis and taught Bible School teachers in national training institute seminars. I also served as Children's Minister at Highland several years in the 1980's. My husband Bruce is the Executive Director of the ACU Foundation. We have a daughter named Melanie who is married to Robert and they have 2 daughters - Brenna and Calee. My son Jay is married to Laura and they have children - Tanner, Bailey and Jayton. I enjoy reading, traveling, floral arranging and volunteering. MOPS is much more than a hobby - it's one of my greatest joys. | | | Karen Rich - I've had the joy of being married to my husband, Jack, for thirty-four years. We have four children; twin sons Clay and Mark, and two daughters Julie and Katie. Our sons are married and our oldest daughter graduated from ACU and lives in Abilene. As a young family we traveled all over America, taking our children to all fifty states. Now, my husband and I travel often and it take us to places abroad. I love spending time with my best friend - my husband. I hope to always have my passport up to date so that we can travel and experience GOD's big world!
I "retired" from Jordan Taylor in January. My favorite "job" of all time though was being a full time mom to our children. even though I am still a mom, I feel blessed that our children have taken their roots and spread their wings! |
| Lana Trietsch -I've been married to James, my best friend since high school, for 37 years so far. He worked in technology for the federal government before coming to ACU where he is now senior strategic planner. I have always been a homemaker with occasional stints as church secretary and fill-in office worker. I've been involved with Highland's ladies class, high school mission trips, and food pantry for many years, as well as Women for ACU and other volunteer opportunities. We have 2 daughters: Jenni is a CPA living in Richardson. Heather is married to Phillip, is a CPA and stay-at-home mom to our first grandchild - Emily Mae - and is expecting baby #2 in December. | | Pat Varner - I've been married to Cleddy 52 years in December. Our son Kevin has three children and our daughter Vicki and her husband Darrel have three children. I retired from ACU where I was a professor in Family and Consumer Science for 31 years. My husband was a professor at ACU in Exercise Science. We both retired in 2000. I enjoy teaching ladies bible class, reading Christian novels, playing FreeCell on the computer, teaching Bible lessons online for World Bible School, decorating and working on crossword puzzles. I volunteer at the Critical Care Waiting Room Desk at Hendrick Medical Center, volunteer as a MOM with Motherly Love at Hillcrest, work at Christian Ministries on Friday mornings, and have traveled for twelve years on mission trips to Zambia, Swaziland and South Africa.
